KUCHING, Oct 19: Five masked men armed with machetes robbed a grocery store in Sarikei, making off with RM3,500 worth of goods in the early hours of October 18.
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis confirmed the incident, which occurred around 4.13am, in a statement.
The robbers threatened the lone cashier, with one suspect holding a machete to the cashier’s neck before forcing the victim under a table.
The group then ransacked the store and fled in a vehicle, believed to be a Honda, though the cashier could not identify the registration number due to poor lighting outside.
The case is currently under investigation and has been classified under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code, which pertain to gang robbery and armed robbery.
