DUBAI, May 6: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is collaborating with Royal Brunei Airlines to promote Sarawak’s diverse attractions at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2024, which will take place from May 6 to May 9.
In their endeavour to attract more tourists from the Middle East region, STB showcased the State’s various attractions, including its natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and local communities at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
By aligning with ATM’s theme ‘Empowering Innovation — Transforming Travel Through Entrepreneurship’, STB sought to position Sarawak as not only a gateway to Borneo, connecting Kalimantan, Sabah, and Brunei, but also as a leading ecotourism and responsible tourism destination worldwide.
According to the press release, chief executive officer (CEO) of STB Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor expressed that the board’s involvement in this year’s ATM presents a golden opportunity to prioritise the State in visitor’s minds regarding ecotourism and responsible tourism within the Middle East region.
Sharzede cited the previous year’s (2023) visitor statistics from the Middle East, noting 3,630 visitors, marking a 6.95 per cent recovery rate compared to the peak year of 2019, which saw 3,394 visitor arrivals.
“This is why STB is amplifying our efforts to create more visibility on Sarawak in this region as part of our aim to receive more Middle East visitors into Sarawak in 2024,” she said.
At this year’s ATM, visitors to the booth will have the chance to immerse themselves in Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage through daily dance performances by the Sarawak Arts Council (SAC) throughout the travel trade fair.
The Arabian Travel Market serves as the foremost international travel and tourism trade show, providing a platform for inbound and outbound tourism professionals to seize market opportunities in the Middle East, where renowned tourist destinations worldwide converge in Dubai to showcase their brands alongside leading names in accommodation, hospitality, tourist attractions, travel technology, and airlines. — DayakDaily
