KUCHING, March 21: There is increased participation of Sarawakian companies in oil and gas activities, with over 600 licensed and registered Sarawakians and approximately RM2.9 billion jobs been awarded to local companies for jobs as of 2022.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youths, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat who represented Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, stated this during the inauguration ceremony of the Sarawakian Bumiputera Oil and Gas Contractors Transformation Programme 2023, which was held at a hotel in Kuching today.

“In 2020, a Joint-Coordination Committee (JCC) was established to facilitate negotiations between Sarawak government, Federal government and Petronas.

“JCC was supported by six sub-committees and through Sub-Committee 4, Sarawak has managed to increase local companies’ participation in oil and gas activities.”

He went on to say that there are also various programmes made available to harness the full potential of oil and gas industry players such as Vendor Financing Programme.

“As at 2022, about RM325.8 million has been approved to 38 Sarawakian companies.

“Meanwhile, in terms of engagement, about 300 companies benefited from eight engagement sessions with Sarawakian companies in 2022,” he added. — DayakDaily
