KUCHING, April 30: The Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family Assistance or BKM) programme will be open for appeals for a month starting May 2.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said this is for those appealing online, while manual appeals will be accepted beginning May 9.

He said the government realises that many Malaysians are eligible but have yet to be registered in the system.

“BKM is an initiative announced in the 2022 Budget to benefit the B40 group. The government has updated the list of B40 individuals who are eligible for this assistance.

“Almost RM2 billion has been channelled in Phase 1 of BKM to almost nine million recipients throughout Malaysia last March. BKM Phase 2 amounting RM1.1 billion will be distributed in June,” he said in a statement today.

Zafrul also said those who successfully appealed would have their assistance channelled in the third and fourth phases, which are scheduled to be in September and December this year.

“The government remains committed to ensuring that the aid allocated reaches those eligible to guarantee the welfare of the entire Malaysian Family,” he added. — DayakDaily
