MIRI, Nov 23: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Dato Sri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated assurance and readiness to hold discussions with the party State Leadership Council (MPN) on the political issues and discontent which have left the party in a turmoil.

“As the party president, I have the authority to decide and do what I think is right for the benefits of the party.

“But I will meet up with MPN to discuss the matter… we will discuss on how to resolve the issues in a good manner,” he told reporters when met briefly after declaring opened the PKR State-Level Convention at a leading hotel here this morning.

He was responding to a question from the local media on the crisis that has been shrouding the party recently.

Sarawak PKR leadership aligned with its chief Baru Bian had recently butted heads with the party’s top national leadership after its deputy president Dato Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s invitation to officiate the PKR Youth National Convention slated for Dec 6 in Melaka was rescinded.

During his speech, Anwar emphasied that it was crucial to be loyal towards the party.

Without mentioning any names, he reminded that party members must put the party as their priority interest over self-interest.

“Bear in mind, that the party’s trust (in you) have made what you are today,” he said.

Anwar also called on the party grassroots leaders and members to stand united behind PKR, as part of their preparation for the coming state election.

“We must win in this coming Sarawak’s 12th state election,…I want PKR Sarawak’s leadership strength to help us win the election,” he said.

As a political party with diverse ethnic members, he pointed out the importance of moving forward with focus on the people and preventing crisis.

Noting the Pakatan Harapan (PH)’s defeat in the recent Tanjung Piai by-election, he said the party must take the failure as a lesson and learned from the mistake.

“That is why, we must work as one team,” he emphasised.

Some 1,200 delegates attended the convention, which included party leaders such as party secretary-general Dato Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng, Julau MP Larry Sng, Hulu Rajang chief Abun Sui Anyit, Baram deputy chief Rolang Enggan and organising chairman Datuk Sng Chee Hua.
