KUCHING, Feb 23: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed there are attempts from certain quarters to “bring down” Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

He claimed that the attempts involved some members from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) while he also admitted that there are some PKR members who have betrayed the party.

“There were attempts from some Bersatu members who tried to defect from the party. And there are some party members who are betraying PKR.

“We are waiting for more information.

“They have met with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong earlier but there has not been any announcement,” he said during a live streaming through PKR’s Facebook page at his house at Kampung Segambut Dalam, Kuala Lumpur.

When asked on the new coalition government which has been the talk of the town, Anwar said he did not have the details.

Nonetheless, the Port Dickson MP has been reported to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow (Feb 24).

Speculations have been rife that Azmin is leading 18 to 20 PKR leaders to leave PKR and will join the new coalition formed by the MPs from Bersatu, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), Parti Warisan Sabah, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) and other opposition parties such as Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Parti Islam Se Malaysia (PAS). The new coalition will form a new government with Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad continues to be the prime minister.

A series of meetings by major political parties further fuelled the speculations.

In the morning, Bersatu had a four-hour long meeting at its headquarters in Petaling Jaya after which nothing was revealed.

Coincidentally, a meeting involving  the “kartel faction” led by PKR deputy president Azmin and vice president Zuraida Kamaruddin also took place at a prominent hotel, not far from Bersatu headquarters in Petaling Jaya. Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Works Minister Baru Bian, Batu Pahat MP Rashid Hasnon, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah, and Segamat MP R Santhara Kumar were reported attending the meeting.

Apart from that, it was reported that there were three other meetings being held – those of Umno, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Parti Islam Se Malaysia (PAS).

In the late afternoon, Dr Mahathir, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Azmin and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang were reported to be among those who had an audience with the Yang-di-Pertuan Agong.

This evening, after the purported meeting the Agong, some PH leaders and MPs of the opposition were seen again in the same hotel at Petaling Jaya.  What was being discussed and transpired were unknown as all MPs kept mum about the details of the meeting.

Those reported to be attending the dinner included Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Azmin and Hadi Awang. — DayakDaily
