MIRI, Nov 23: Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng is confident that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim can bring substantial change to Sarawak and its people.
Speaking at the “PKR Miri Women’s wing solidarity night” yesterday, he called on the party’s grassroots, regardless of their differences, to give undivided support to Anwar.
“I am certain that Anwar will be Malaysia’s eighth prime minister chosen by the people to turn this country into a better nation,” he opined.
Dr Teo believed Anwar, who he described as having suffered so much for others, will be the man advocating on issues such as land matters involving the natives in Sarawak.
“He had suffered injustices, he made personnel sacrifices for the people. Over the last 11 years, he was in prison for championing on the people’s rights and that is why we follow him,” he said.
Dr Teo added that the past 20 years journey since the formation of PKR, Anwar has helped shaped party’s members to embrace change.
“We cannot simply change our captain,” he said, in reference to Anwar as PKR president.
Dr Teo added that Anwar would be able to solve all political problems and internal crisis facing the party.
Datuk Seri Hafsah Harun, a non-executive special advisor (Sarawak affairs) in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, advised members to stay united and support their leaders in order to move forward.
She reminded grassroots against being involved in conflicts and clashing heads with fellow party members.
“We cannot have many ‘heads’ in a political party,” she said.
