KUCHING, Sept 10: The Federal government has decided to implement the Transformation of Parliament and Government Administration to restore political stability in order to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and restore the country’s economy.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement today said this was in accordance with the advice of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Malay Rulers of the importance of a stable administration and functioning normally in a crisis.

“The offer aims to create a new political landscape by implementing transformations and reforms in the governance of government administration in particular strengthening the role of Parliamentary institutions.

“At the same time, the government is committed to introducing more transformations over time,” he said.

The Parliamentary and Government Administration Transformation offer includes tabling a constitutional amendment bill to limit the term of office of the prime minister to 10 years only, a constitutional amendment bill prior to implementing Undi18, and an Anti-Party Hopping Bill.

The government also agreed to balance the membership of the Parliamentary Select Committee between Government MPs and Opposition MPs, to have every Bill including the Supply Bill tabled in Parliament to be negotiated and agreed upon jointly, and to involve members of the Opposition parties in the National Recovery Council (MPN) to provide views and suggestions for improvement.

Last but not least, the government also announced that Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be given remuneration and facilities equivalent to that of a minister. — DayakDaily
