KUCHING, Aug 27: Standard operating procedures (SOPs) banning dine-ins, shortening business operating hours to 8pm, and implementation of a 10pm curfew in Sarawak’s Southern Region have been extended to Sept 5.

Districts in the Southern Region include Kuching, Lundu, Bau, Serian, Tebedu, Samarahan, Asajaya and Simunjan.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement on the Covid-19 update today, said this decision was made given the alarming level of Covid-19 caseloads in those districts.

Today, Kuching alone saw 906 out of the total of 2,224 Covid-19 positive cases while Samarahan, Serian, Simunjan, Bau, Lundu, Asajaya and Tebedu recorded 210, 158, 96, 69, 50, 37 and 28 cases respectively.

Aside from the period extension, the three SOPs remain the same. Restaurants, coffee shops and eateries are not allowed to serve dine-in customers, and all businesses should only operate between 5am to 8pm.

Individuals or groups of individuals are also prohibited from loitering at public places after 10pm without valid reasons. — DayakDaily
