KUCHING, Jan 28: A one-off financial assistance of RM500 will be provided to operators of boats, passenger vans, and public and school buses, as well as taxi drivers in Sarawak.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced this as one of the seven measures under the latest Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 8.0 involving RM285.47 million today.

As Sarawak is now in Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), where most economic and social sectors have reopened, he noted that public transport remains an important service that will aid in socio-economic activities.

“This measure will benefit 1,725 operators in the transport sector registered in Sarawak.

“It will involve a total expenditure of RM870,000 on the government,” he told a special press conference held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

The latest measure is an extension of BKSS 7.0 to relieve the financial burden on the people post-Covid-19.

Abang Johari pointed out that this assistance demonstrated the Sarawak government’s commitment to the path of socio-economic recovery for the well-being of the people.

“The Sarawak government will always work hard to ensure all the measures announced in the BKSS packages will benefit the targeted groups,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion were also present. ā€” DayakDaily
