KUCHING, June 14: A Gawai celebration at a longhouse in Sungai Sentebu, Sarikei has led to a new Covid-19 cluster in Sarawak with 48 cumulative positive cases so far.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily statement today, said the community cluster was detected involving a longhouse which has been put under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
“The Sungai Sentebu Cluster stemmed from social movements and gathering activities during the Gawai Dayak eve celebration on May 31,” the Committee elaborated.
A total of 69 individuals have been screened whereby 48 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case while 21 others were negative.
All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted to Sarikei Hospital and Sarikei Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.
The Sungai Sentebu Cluster is one of the two new clusters announced by the SDMC today with the other which involved a longhouse community in Ulu Sangan in Tatau.
At the same time, SDMC announced the end of Mongkos Cluster in Tebedu after reporting no new positive cases for the past 28 days.
At present, there are 83 active clusters in the State with 13 of them recording an increase of 146 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
