Another 9 medical staff test positive, pushes up infections among healthcare providers to at least 72

KUCHING, Jan 29:  Another nine healthcare providers across Sarawak have been infected with Covid-19 today.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, these nine cases are from different healthcare facilities in five districts namely Sibu, Song, Miri, Kapit and Bintulu.


There are four healthcare workers in healthcare facilities in Sibu District who are confirmed to be infected with Coronavirus.

In Miri healthcare facilities, there are two such cases while in healthcare facilities in Song, Kapit and Bintulu, there is one case each, bringing today’s total number of medical staff infection to nine.

If we were to look back at previous statistics, there are now at least 72 medical staff fallen victims to Covid-19 as of today.

On Jan 13, 2021, quoting Sarawak Health Director Dr Chin Zin Hing, DayakDaily broke the news that 13 medical officers in Sibu Hospital were tested positive for Covid-19.

Seven days later on Jan 20, again quoting Dr Chin, Dayakdaily reported that 20 healthcare providers in the Miri Hospital were infected.

On Jan 25, in answering to DayakDaily’s question, Dr Chin revealed that as of that day, there were in total 53 medical staff across four major hospitals in Sarawak being infected by the dreaded pandemic.

And on Jan 26, Dayakdaily followed up the news and reported that there were five additional Covid-19 cases among the healthcare provider team across Sarawak. —DayakDaily
