KUCHING, Feb 28: Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos believes that Malaysians especially Sarawakians should be prepared for Sarawak State Election in the event that a snap general election be called.

He opined that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg may call for a simultaneous state election with the general election.

ā€œOf course a snap election is far too soon, for the last one was less than two years ago which was held in May 2018.

ā€œBut if there is no choice to break from the current political impasse, then what other choice is there?

ā€œIf a snap election is to be held, then Malaysians must be ready and be prepared for it.

ā€œAs for Sarawak, it is up to YAB Chief Minister and GPS to hold the State Election simultaneuosly with the snap general election.

ā€œIt may and can be simultaneous because Sarawak election must be held not too far away, which is by the middle of next year,ā€ Peter said in a statement.

Peter noted that interim Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad may advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riā€™ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to hold a snap general election to solve the current political impasse if there is a need to.

As for Sarawak, Peter believed that Abang Johari is a wise leader who will surely study and analyse the various facts and factors before making the final decision to call for state polls.

In the mean time, he believed GPS will keep its distance to join any coaliation. ā€” DayakDaily
