An open letter to Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari, Chief Minister of Sarawak

Pemanca Tony Kulleh

Dear Abang,

I hope you won’t mind addressing you just as Abang, for in reality that’s who you truly are – a very dear brother to all Sarawakians.

And so, Abang, please forgive me for being very frank with you in this letter.

Abang, we’ve always been supportive of the government of the day and its politics of development. One doesn’t need to search far and wide for the evidence of our trust and the mandate we have given to the GPS-led government.

The result of the just concluded 12th Sarawak Election proves that fact.

In addition, the people of Belaga have made great sacrifices to leave their ancestral homes in Murum and Ulu Balui to give way for the construction of two big Hydroelectric Power projects — the Murum and Bakun Dams —to generate cheap, clean and renewable energy for Sarawak’s future development and progress.

Hence, we humbly seek Abang’s goodness in the spirit of inclusivity to reciprocate the loyalty and sacrifices of Belaga in general to appoint state assemblyman for DUN N65 Belaga, YB Datuk Liwan Lagang as a full minister and state assemblyman for DUN N66 Murum, YB Kennedy Chukpai Ugon as assistant minister in the new state Cabinet of Sarawak as both of them have the credentials.

It is also our hope that both the YBs (Liwan and Chukpai) and professionals from Belaga may also be appointed to sit in State’s government-linked companies such Sarawak Energy, Petros (Petroleum Sarawak Berhad) and others.

I hope, Abang, that you’ll feel and understand the sentiments and heartbeat of the people of Belaga and Murum.

Thank you very much for your wisdom and exemplary leadership.

Yours sincerely,

Pemanca Tony Kulleh,

Chairman of Persatuan Penduduk Asal Tasek Balui (Bakun) Belaga.
