KUCHING, June 24: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sarawak chairman Mohd Fidzuan Zaidi says the party is confident of winning six to seven seats in the next Sarawak election which must be called by September 2021.
He told DayakDaily that Amanah Sarawak most likely will be contesting in 13 to 15 seats.
“We have the confidence to win half of them, six to seven seats,” said Mohd Fidzuan when met at Amanah Sarawak’s Gawai Raya Celebration at Matang Jaya tonight.
On whether the party will be allocated the same number of seats as before in the next state polls, Fidzuan said there will be re-negotiations following the entry of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) into Sarawak last year.
“Although we have agreed to remain status quo, but because there is a new component party which is Bersatu, we have to re-open negotiation,” said Fizduan, who said the negotiation meeting between the four Pakatan Harapan component parties — Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP), Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Amanah Sarawak and Bersatu Sarawak — will be held soon.
In the 2016 state election, Sarawak PKR contested in 40 seats and won three, Sarawak DAP fielded 31 candidates and won seven seats while Amanah Sarawak contested in 13 seats and lost in all.
The 13 seats allocated to Amanah Sarawak by PH in the last Sarawak election were Samariang, Muara Tuang, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Beting Maro, Kabong, Kuala Rejang, Semop, Daro, Jamoreng, Balingian, Gedong and Demat Laut. — DayakDaily
