MIRI, Aug 8: A total of 98 per cent or 9,938 of 10,133 teachers and caregivers at childcare centres in Sarawak have received at least one Covid-19 vaccination dose.
“Based on Sarawak Health Department statistics, as of August 5 this year, we have surpassed our targets,” said Welfare, Community Wellbeing ,Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah today.
Half of the teachers have completed their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Thus, Fatimah is hoping that the sizeable percentage of teachers and caregivers inoculated at childcare centres State-wide would increase parents’ confidence in knowing that their children are safe.
Fatimah was in Miri for a one-day visit to see two temporary shelters accommodating 24 homeless individuals here as part of Covid-19 vaccination efforts.
She revealed that besides homeless individuals, other vulnerable people such as those with disabilities (OKU) and senior citizens have also been given priority in the vaccination programme to achieve herd immunity.
“We want to ensure no one is left behind,” Fatimah emphasised.
Citing statistics from the State Health Department as of Aug 5 this year, she said a total of 12,979 OKU have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 8,442 have completed two doses.
Meanwhile, a total of 339,880 senior citizens in the State have been inoculated with their first Covid-19 vaccine jab, while 303,206 have completed their second dose. — DayakDaily
