KUCHING, Dec 19: The allocation of a new bridge for Kampung Kudei Dunggun has been approved by Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, and construction will begin next January, says political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Abdul Samat Gany.
According to a press statement, Abdul Samat emphasised that the decision was made to allocate funds for the construction of a new bridge to replace the existing bridge due to the plight of the community in the area.
“Due to the high cost of the new bridge, its construction has been divided into four packages — A, B, C, and D. Construction will start in Jan 2023 (next month),” he told a press conference today.
He was responding to public concern about the state of the existing bridge following a visit to the area by a certain MP.
He said that packages A and B had been designed and evaluated by the Public Works Department (JKR).
“These packages (A and B) will be 200 metres in length,” he added.
Abdul Samat continued stating that packages C and D will be implemented after the completion of packages A and B, with an estimated length of 150 metres.
He also noted that in August, a site visit was conducted to assess the situation in the area and obtain feedback, where it was attended by officers from the Satok service centre along with several community leaders.
This came after a community representative proposed building a new bridge in the Satok service centre area.
He mentioned that the project seeks to resolve the area’s problem fully, and the construction will be done to JKR’s standard.
“We seek to provide a total solution to the matter — not only on a piecemeal basis. This is not merely supplying a few wood planks to resolve the issue,” he explained.
Furthermore, Abdul Samat assured Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok will continue to address issues affecting the community and will provide the necessary assistance.
“With the completion of the new bridge, it definitely will provide comfort to the residents.
“PBB Satok hopes that the local community will cooperate during the construction period.
“We also hope that with the action taken by the GPS State government and PBB Satok, the Kampung Kudei Dunggun bridge issue will not arise in the future,” he remarked.
Also present during the press conference were PBB Satok assistant branch secretary Azmi Hipni and PBB Satok branch exco Zaidi Sirat. — DayakDaily
