Allegations involving senior police officer enabling online gambling gang being investigated thoroughly

Police have so far arrested 15 suspects believed to be involved in the case.

SIBU, Nov 30: Allegations that a senior police officer here allowed a gang to conduct online gambling is being taken very seriously by the police, who are in the midst of conducting an in-depth investigation.

State Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail in a statement today said that they had set up a special investigation team to investigate the allegation.

A Facebook account with the username ‘Ali Hero’ had alleged that the officer had allowed a gang to run an illegal online gambling casino in return for kickbacks.


Ali had also attached video clips in his Facebook account which showed a man being beaten up by a gang of 20 people outside a food court at Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah on Nov 28.

The post has since gone viral.

“The police have received a report on the video clips posted by the owner of the Facebook account. Investigations were immediately carried out under Section 148 and 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1988,” he said.

“This led to the arrest of 15 suspects.

“We have identified the victim who is being warded at the hospital for minor injuries and several witnesses,” he said.

The police are now tracking down another five suspects.
