KUCHING, Aug 8: In conjunction with the 2019 Kuching Festival, Kuching City South Commission (MBKS) will be holding a Mass Folk Dance Display this weekend.
The event is scheduled for this Saturday, August 10, at 6pm at the State Hockey Stadium at Jalan Padungan here.
The folk dance display has been an annual Kuching Festival event since 1988 and this year marks the 31st year of MBKS organising this event.
The organising chairperson is Councillor Kho Teck Wan, and some 800 participants from 58 teams are expected to participate, comprising 24 local teams and 34 teams from Sabah, Pulau Pinang and other regions in Sarawak as well as participants from abroad such as Taiwan, Hongkong, Singapore and Brunei.
According to a media release from MBKS, the event aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and foster good relationships and understanding amongst the people in the Kuching South community.
Members of the public are invited to join the event.
Meanwhile, MBKS also announced that the Kuching Festival Sports Toto 3-on-3 Basketball Jamboree has been rescheduled to a later date.
It will be held at the MBKS Foyer on Sunday, August 18, from 7am onwards.
There would be seven categories contested: Non-Chinese Men Open, Women Open, 20 & Under (Boys), 16 & Under (Boys), 16 & Under (Girls), 12 & Under (Boys) and 12 & Under (Girls).
Registration forms are still available and may be obtained at Counter D at the One Stop Service Counter (OSSC) at the lobby of MBKS headquarters during office hours.
The closing date for registration has been extended to 4pm on Thursday, August 15.
