KUCHING, March 9: Sarawak aims to have all sports facilities ready by June this year for the commencement of the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma).

Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said some of the facilities are currently under construction or repair works.

“Our target is for the facilities to be completed by June.

“Facilities such as the rugby field and wushu hall are among those currently under construction,” he told reporters after the launch of Sukma 2024, which was held at Pullman Hotel here today.

Abdul Karim further said that the sprint races for the cycling event will be held at Jalan FAC (Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Road), similar to the previous Sukma in 2016.

“This is because we will not be in time to establish a velodrome when Sarawak hosts Sukma 2024.

“Insya-Allah, after Sukma, we will begin building the velodrome with the hope that it will be completed within two and a half years. This project has been approved,” he added. — DayakDaily
