Alert citizens overpower suspected Sibu snatch thief on Christmas Day

SIBU, Dec 26: A jobless man was placed under citizen’s arrest by members of the public for allegedly snatching a woman’s handbag on Christmas Day.

According to Sibu district police chief, Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, at about 9.30am yesterday, the 38-year-old complainant was buying medicine at a pharmacy in Jalan Sentral when a man suddenly showed up.

“All of a sudden, the suspect snatched her handbag and ran away,” he revealed.

The woman’s loud cries for help caught the attention of members of the public who then pursued the suspect.

The suspect tripped and fell on the road where he was overpowered by passers-by, before being handed over to police personnel who were in the area.

The suspect has been remanded for investigation under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery. ā€” DayakDaily
