Alena’s “Sky Songs” album nominated for International Indigenous Artist-Group Recording of the Year

KUCHING, May 14: Sarawakian musician Alena Murang’s new album “Sky Songs” has been nominated at the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards Canada for the International Indigenous Artist-Group Recording of the Year.

Alena, in a press statement today, said the winner will be announced and honoured at a special ceremony streamed live from the National Arts Centre Ottawa, Canada, on June 12, 2021.

“According to the organisers, nominees were selected by an invited panel of jurors comprising indigenous and music industry professionals and peers and no public voting was involved in the selection process,” she said.

Also nominated in the category are the bands VILDÁ (Finland), Gájanas (Finland), Samantha Crain (USA) and Cary Morin (USA).

The Awards has been around for 22 years and span 18 categories, celebrating solo artists, duos and groups by showcasing the diverse and growing music and culture of artistic expression and accomplishment within the Indigenous community.

Meanwhile, Alena said her “Sky Songs” will be on all major digital platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, KKBox, etc.) starting on May 28, 2021.

According to her it is currently available as CD and cassette from Tandang Store (www.tandangstore.com), featuring eight tracks (four in Kelabit language, one in Kenyah and one in English and two instrumental tracks).

“The single “Warrior Spirit” will be released on May 27, 2021 on Alena’s YouTube Channel. The music video is produced by the same team behind the award-winning music video Midang Midang (2019),” she added. — DayakDaily
