KUCHING, Nov 16: Sarawak’s upcoming airline AirBorneo is expected to be launched before the next ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA), says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari said the new airline will open more routes into Sarawak, making it easier for filmmakers and tourists to fly into the State.

Abang Johari also noted that AIFFA 2025 recorded a historic 200 film submissions, the highest in its history since the festival was first held in 2013.

He said the strong response reflects the growing energy of the region’s creative community and the organisers’ consistent efforts to position AIFFA as a leading ASEAN film platform.

Abang Johari added that Sarawak continues to invest in its creative industry, including through training, education and infrastructure.

“Soon, we will open our own Centre for Performing Arts — a dedicated space to nurture local talents and fuel Sarawak’s creative future,” he elaborated.
