AirBorneo strengthens Sarawak-Sabah air link, driving Borneo integration and development

KUCHING, Jan 8: AirBorneo is forging stronger ties between Sarawak and Sabah by improving air connectivity and supporting initiatives that drive Borneo integration and local development.

The airline, which recently took over Rural Air Services (RAS) from MASwings, aims to ensure seamless air travel for both urban and interior communities across the two States.

Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki briefed Sabah officials on AirBorneo’s operations during a courtesy visit to Sabah Secretary Datuk Seri Panglima Safar Untong at Menara Kinabalu today.

“The move is crucial to ensure the continuity and enhancement of air services in Sabah and Sarawak, especially for rural and interior areas, while also strengthening connectivity between our two States,” he said in a statement today.

As AirBorneo’s chairman, Abu Bakar expressed gratitude for the warm reception and Sabah’s readiness to host the visit.

Following the MASwings takeover on Jan 1, 2026, AirBorneo inaugurated flights to Mukah and Tanjung Manis from Kuching International Airport on Jan 2, marking a new chapter in regional connectivity.

Also present at the meeting were Sararawak Attorney-General Datu Saferi Ali, Sarawak Secretary of Finance Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Deputy Sarawak Secretary of Finance Datu Hasmawati Sapawi, and AirBorneo chief executive officer (CEO) Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin. — DayakDaily
