KUCHING, Jan 15: AirBorneo has successfully completed a major technology transition with the cutover of its Departure Control System (DCS) and the launch of its own MY flight codes across 21 airports, marking a critical milestone in the airline’s move towards full operational independence.
According to a press release from AirBorneo, with the transition, all flights previously operating under the MH series designation now appear as MY series flights, formally establishing AirBorneo’s distinct identity across airports in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan. The first MY-coded flight, MY3220, operated from Miri to Labuan at 6.15am on Wednesday (Jan 14).
AirBorneo chief executive officer (CEO) Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said the successful DCS cutover and introduction of the MY code demonstrated the strength of collaborative leadership and shared vision.
“The successful transition to DCS and the introduction of Flight MY3220 as our first service under the MY code is a testament to what can be achieved through collaborative leadership and shared vision,” he said, expressing appreciation to the Sarawak and Federal transport ministries, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) for their support.
Megat Ardian added that the milestone also laid the groundwork for the airline’s next phase, including the planned launch of jet operations in July, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, expanding network reach and enhancing the passenger experience.
The DCS cutover is among the most significant operational achievements since AirBorneo commenced operations on Jan 2, 2026. The migration enables the airline to operate with full technical autonomy from MASWings Sdn Bhd systems.
Throughout the transition period, airport check-in counters, baggage handling and all passenger-facing services continued normal operations, with coordination maintained across airport operators and key stakeholders.
The simultaneous deployment across 21 airports, including services to rural communities and Twin Otter operations to remote airstrips, underscored AirBorneo’s operational readiness and technical capability.
The successful transition also establishes critical infrastructure for the airline’s 2026 expansion roadmap, which includes planned jet operations and the launch of regional and international routes by mid-2026. — DayakDaily
