Aid coming in for Lawas flood victims

PKR Ba' Kelalan Service Centre gearing up to send necessity items to affected flood victims in Lawas.

KUCHING, Dec 6: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak Chief Baru Bian praised the State Disaster Relief Management Committee for its prompt assistance granted to Lawas residents affected by serious floods.

From his service centre, Baru said he was also playing his part to distribute food items and other aid to those affected.

“I would like to convey and extend my grateful thanks and appreciation to the State Disaster Relief Management Committee which has been prompt in assisting the affected residents with relief and carrying out the SOP for such a crisis and is monitoring the situation closely.


“Ba’ Kelalan Service Centre is also on highest alert and constantly assisting the affected residents.

“We are delivering aid and essential items and working closely with the authorities to ensure that no one is adversely affected by this disaster,” said the Ba’ Kelalan assemblyman in a press statement today.

He gave assurance that the governments will do their best to assist the flood victims in any way possible.

Meanwhile, Baru who is also Works Minister expressed alarm and concern over the current flood situation in Lawas area.

“I note that many villages and areas, including where my Lawas town house is situated in Siang Siang village, have been inundated with up to two metres high flood waters.

“The residents of Kampung Seberang, Kampung Gelapas, Perumahan Gelapas, Kampung Masjid Trusan, Kampung Lungan, Kampung Tengah Trusan, Kampung Lintang and Kampung Sundar, all located near the Sabah-Sarawak border, have been badly affected.

“I have been informed that to date 93 victims have been evacuated to the Trusan Community Hall in the outskirts of Lawas town,” he said.—DayakDaily.
