MIRI, April 3: Lt Col Ahmad Nezam Che Ree is the new commanding officer of the 20th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (20 RAMD). He succeeds Lt Col Azmi Ali.

The handing-over of command at Camp Sri Miri here today was witnessed by Brig Gen Shamsirudin Mohd Shariff, the 9th Infantry Brigade commander, complete with a parade involving 12 officers and 216 rank and file.

Shamsirudin, when met by the press after the event, said he believed Ahmad Nezam, who was previously attached to the Defence Ministry, could further enhance the organisation (20 RAMD).

“We have always focused on military discipline, and I believe Lt Col Ahmad Nezam could carry on with efforts made by his predecessor,” he said.

Shamsirudin admitted that like other bodies, RAMD does have disciplines issues, but “we managed to tackle them through comprehensive approaches”.

Earlier, Azmi urged new recruits and soldiers to uphold discipline in the army at all times.

“Don’t tarnish the image of the force. Upgrade your skills,” advised Azmi, who has been transferred to the Defence Ministry. — DayakDaily
