KUCHING, Aug 9: Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah says the passing of former Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang is a big loss to Sarawak.
“He was a very good MP, not controversial and very hardworking especially when he was a MP.
“And its was also a big loss to our party PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) in which he was a member,” he told reporters after the ceremony to hand over Sarawak Museum Complex from the contractor to Sarawak Museum Department today.
He shared he last met Ahmad Lai when he was in Miri for Chinese New Year which was early this year.
Abdul Karim said the news came as a shock as he had known Ahmad Lai for years.
“I express my condolences to his family and hope his family will face his demise calmly,” he added.
Ahmad Lai passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at 5.32am today.
His remains will be sent home to Miri today with prayers to be held at Kampung Luak Mosque.
The two-term MP was first elected to Parliament in 2008 general election, defeating PKR candidate Dr Michael Teo.— DayakDaily
