KUCHING, Nov 5: The Sarawak government will review an existing agreement between Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Water) and external parties regarding the sale of treated water. This is to ensure that the supply to local consumers remains unaffected.

Sarawak Utilities and Telecommunications Minister, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi stressed that the Sarawak government will continue to prioritise domestic needs in managing Sarawak’s water supply.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Julaihi said he has instructed Sarawak Water to review the current water sales agreement to third parties to safeguard local supply.

“I understand that there was indeed a previous agreement between the Sibu Water Board (now known as Sarawak Water) and certain parties, but I have requested that the matter be reviewed.

“Our priority remains with local consumers,” he said at the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Integrity Day Celebration 2025 here on Tuesday.

He also warned against the act of illegally water tapping which is considered to be among the causes of water pressure disruptions in some areas. – DayakDaily
