KUCHING, Aug 5: Agreeing with K-pop superstar Rain that Kuching is indeed heaven, political pundit Dato Peter Minos says so is the state of Sarawak’s politics when compared to that of Peninsular Malaysia.
“It is cool and calm in Sarawak politically speaking but in the Peninsular (Malaysia), it is pretty ugly and messy where parties really hit and hammer each other.
“And so do individual politicians, both big and small and many have gone very personal,” said Minos in a statement today.
To him, the elections of the six states are “quite alarming, almost like a raging firestorm” and he considered it lucky that all remains a verbal and social media war with nothing physical.
“For us in Sarawak, it is truly calm and cool. The politicians do not go around hitting each other over issues of race and religion. There is both political serenity and tranquility in Sarawak. You can feel it.
“People talk eagerly and happily of economic development and projects coming up. The Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) does it passionately in all occasions everywhere. It is all about how Sarawak is getting more and better in all fields and in all aspects,” said Minos who is also Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman.
He said the thought came to him yesterday during lunchtime when Universiti of Sarawak Malaysia (Unimas) celebrated Abang Johari’s 73th birthday.
To him, it was a happy occasion where everyone talked about the numerous new developments in Sarawak and the conversations were full of hope for a bright future for the people.
“Superstar Rain is right. It is like heaven in Sarawak,” said Minos. — DayakDaily
