Affordable food and drinks for Unimas, UiTM students in May at Aiman Mall

Minos (centre) is giving support to the new food court which offers affordable food and drinks for students of Unimas and UiTM.

KUCHING, March 10: A new food court offering affordable food and drinks specially for struggling students from Universiti Sarawak Malaysia (Unimas) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will be set up at Aiman Mall in Kota Samarahan.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos said the food court will have the full support of the council as lunch or dinner will cost not more than RM10.

“Students cannot afford more than that. Most students are living off a shoestring budget. MPKS feels duty-bound to help.

“MPKS is supporting Mr Hoon of Belly Cafeteria, the operator of the new food court, which can cater up to 500 students per seating.

“It will be a neat, clean and well-designed food court. It will be called ‘Belly Cafeteria Food Street’,” said Minos in a press statement today.

Non-students can patronise the higher priced food and drink. Apart from the students, the food court is open to all.

Spaces will also set aside local handicraft, cultural items and even artefacts for sale, which according to him, are meant to cater for visitors and tourists.

Minos said special dishes such as fresh seafood will be served. Other special Samarahan dishes will also be available.

“Let us be reminded of the plentiful fresh seafood from Samarahan seashores and rivers like Ikan Terubok, freshwater lobsters and ambal (bamboo clam). Not to forget the many types of fruits and vegetables of the area.

“Not just the university students, visitors and tourists will be pleased with the food court. Mr Hoon has years of experience in the food industry in Singapore and he will replicate what he did in Singapore at the new food centre,” said Minos.

The food centre is expected to be open to public by May. — DayakDaily
