KUCHING, Nov 29: Affin Bank Berhad has been appointed to manage the Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS) 2.0 for five years from January 1, 2025, until December 31, 2029.
In a statement yesterday (Nov 28), the Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, said the Sarawak Cabinet recently approved the appointment.
EFS is an RM1,000 initiative given to all Sarawak-born children in the form of savings beginning in 2019.
“Starting January 2025, all EFS applications will still be made at the Sarawak National Registration Department (JPN) branches. NRD will then send application forms for those born in 2024 to Bank Islam while Affin Bank will manage applications for those born in 2025,” she said.
She added that the first phase of manual application will start in January 2025, while the second phase of online application will start in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025.
On the same note, Fatimah said from January 2019 to October 2024, 178,574 Sarawakians were born with ‘K’ status while the total number of applications for EFS was 132,729 (74 per cent).
As such, she emphasised that more efforts are needed to promote EFS to Sarawakian parents with ‘K’ status, either to those who are about to give birth or have already given birth.
“From January 2019 to October 2024, a total of 124,762 Sarawakians have had EFS accounts with a total allocation of RM124.7 million from the Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” she said. — DayakDaily
