KUCHING, Apr 5: Affendi Jeman has announced his intention to contest the Pantai Damai seat in the next Sarawak State election, as his party prepares to field candidates in at least 17 constituencies statewide.
Speaking to reporters at his Hari Raya open house today, the president of Parti Sedar Rakyat (to be renamed into Parti Wawasan) said the party has already identified the seats it intends to contest, although the list will remain confidential for now.
“At this stage, we are planning to contest 17 seats. The constituencies have already been identified, but we will keep them confidential for the time being,” he said.
Affendi added that the number of seats could increase if additional constituencies are created following any future delineation exercise.
On his own political plans, he confirmed that he will offer himself as a candidate in Pantai Damai.
“I would like to announce today that I will be contesting in Pantai Damai,” he said.
He said the party’s main objective in the upcoming election is to win seats and secure a place in the government in order to serve the people more effectively.
“When we enter an election, of course we aim to win.
“If we win several seats, we would want to be in the government because only then can we serve the people,” he said.
At the same time, he said the party maintains a friendly stance towards the current State administration including Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) while remaining focused on representing the interests of the people.
Looking ahead to the election campaign, Affendi also revealed that the party plans to introduce its manifesto, known as “Wawasan 18”, aimed at voters aged 18 and above.
The manifesto, he said, will outline the party’s vision to advance Sarawak while building on existing infrastructure and development initiatives in the state.
He added that the party is expected to announce its candidates about two to three months before polling day, although the date of the next state election has yet to be determined. — DayakDaily
