BINTULU, March 4: An adequate diversion road needed to be created to ease traffic congestion and keep traffic flowing at Kampung Assyakirin as the ongoing drainage system construction work has snarled up traffic in the area.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming said contractors need to construct a temporary road that is sufficient to accommodate the traffic volume in the area.

“If the road that is closed for maintenance is a dual carriageway, then the temporary road that is built must also be a dual carriageway.

“Jalan Bakeri Ting which leads to Jalan Tun Razak has been closed for repair work after it has collapsed. The temporary road that was created is only single lane and this caused severe congestion at the roundabout,” he told reporters when visiting the construction site on March 2 (Thursday).

Pang added that the contractor also needs to provide clear and sufficient signages along the temporary road without affecting road users visibility.

He also said the contractor and the authorities involved must notify the public in advance before closing any road.

“Tanjong Batu service center has received many complaints from residents along Jalan Tanjung Batu and Taman Lucky Tower regarding the congestion that occurred.

“The complaints received are also about them not receiving any advance notice or warning before the road is closed and the direction changed,” he added. – DayakDaily
