KUCHING, May 15: As Opposition leaders in Peninsular Malaysia rally in support of PETRONAS, Sarawak rights activist Peter John Jaban calls on Sarawak leaders, regardless of their political standing, to stand united and fight for the rights of Sarawak.

He further challenged the prevailing narrative that portrays PETRONAS as the “goose that lays the golden eggs,” insisting instead that it is Sarawak itself that is the golden goose, by virtue of its rich oil and gas reserves.

“Sarawak is the land where the oil and gas are found. Without Sarawak’s natural bounty, there would be no golden eggs to harvest,” he said.

With that, Peter John stressed that political differences must be set aside when it comes to issues as critical as ownership and control over Sarawak’s oil and gas resources.

He pointed out Sarawak is the rightful owner of its oil and gas, and its leaders must act with unity, courage, and resolve in defending the State’s interests.

“Now is the time for all Sarawak leaders across all parties to show unity and strength in demanding full control over our natural wealth and ensuring its benefits are returned to the people of Sarawak

“We must stand firm together. This is not about party politics this is about our future. This is about Sarawak.”

He emphasised that Sarawak is rich in resources, but that wealth has not been fairly shared as for decades, Sarawak has received only five per cent royalty from its own resources a token share.

“It’s time to change that. With PETROS, we are ready to take back what is ours — not in conflict, but in fairness,” he added.

“Through PETROS, we can shape our own future. We are not asking for too much just what’s ours.” – DayakDaily
