KUCHING, Oct 5: When most new drug users are young people, it’s clear that substance abuse isn’t just a personal issue—it’s a threat to families and communities that must be taken seriously.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, said that drug and substance abuse remains the biggest threat to today’s youth

“Statistics show that most new drug users are from the youth demographic. Therefore, through programmes like this, we urge young people to stay away from drug abuse, vaping, smoking, and any substances that can harm the mind, body, and soul,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Youth Identity Empowerment Camp for the Sarikei Division today.

Len, who is also the assemblyman for Kuala Rajang, said the youth must uphold strong personal values to ensure they remain honest, trustworthy, and transparent in all their dealings.

In this regard, he said, government and non-government initiatives such as youth development camps should be fully utilised for their own benefit.

“Let all the experiences, training, and knowledge gained serve as provisions for your daily lives.

“Practise responsibility, live by noble values, and avoid getting involved in negative activities—become an example and role model for your peers,” he said. — DayakDaily
