KUCHING, Aug 9: The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) presented donations to fire victims at Sebuyau Town this morning.
Led by its president Dato Tan Jit Kee, the ACCCIS visited the scene of the fire before presenting the donations to 10 fire victims.
According to a press release, it hoped that the donations could alleviate the victims’ financial burdens in the eventual rebuilding of the shophouses.
Among those accompanying Tan were the ACCCIS vice president Dato’ Dr Ngu Piew Seng, secretary-general Dato Jonathan Chai Voon Tok, assistant treasurer Ho Siew Hua, digital economy committee chairman Rodger Chan Siong Boh and SMEs & HRD committee deputy chairman Lai Chau Liong.
Also present were Sebuyau Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Penghulu Law Khin Seng, Serian Chinese Chamber of Commerce vice president Pemanca Chai Min Lee, and Serian Chinese Chamber of Commerce executive secretary Chang Foh Chin.
On Saturday afternoon, ten shophouses which have been around for 40 to 50 years were razed to the ground, of which six units belong to members of the Sebuyau Chinese Chamber of Commerce. — DayakDaily
