KUCHING, Jan 4: Out of 18 Sarawak Dayak ministers and deputy ministers evaluated by Dayak netizens in a recent survey, only three received passing approval ratings of 50 per cent and above for their performance, while the rest fared poorly.

The survey, conducted by Professor Dr Jayum Jawan, a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and a member of the National Unity Advisory Council (NUAC), collected responses from 172 to 183 participants.

In a press statement issued today, Jayum said the survey was conducted for Dayak netizens to gauge their perceptions and opinions on the performance of 18 selected Dayak ministers and deputy ministers at the federal and State levels.

The three ministers who were given a ‘pass’ with the highest approval ratings were:

  • Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi: 65 per cent
  • Sarawak Minister for Finance and New Economy, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas: 55 per cent
  • Sarawak Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom: 50 per cent

“The lowest approval ratings were obtained by Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang (35 per cent); Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai (38 per cent); and Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn (41 per cent),” he said.

At the same time, he said all Dayak deputy ministers in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) were also given low approval ratings:

  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu: 46 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datu Dr Penguang anak Manggil: 46 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Liwan Lagang: 42 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil: 40 per cent
  • Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Gerawat Gala: 40 per cent
  • Deputy Digital Minister, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong: 39 per cent
  • Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat: 38 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for International Trade and Investment, Datuk Dr Malcom Mussen Lamoh: 38 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan: 38 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis: 37 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, Dato Majang Renggi: 36 per cent
  • Sarawak Deputy Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development, Datuk Martin Ben: 36 per cent

“These preliminary findings from the perception given by Dayak netizens should serve as a wake-up call. This is neither an absolute nor permanent rating. It can change and the persons so evaluated can change that perception by doing their jobs differently,” he said.

In the press release, Jayum also touched on the Madani government’s planned Cabinet retreat which aims to focus on the successes achieved so far and address weaknesses within the current administration.

Therefore, he hoped the Dayak federal ministers would use the opportunity to reflect on how they could serve the people better.

Similarly, he also hoped that Dayak State ministers and deputy ministers would follow suit. — DayakDaily
