KUCHING, Aug 2: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is the first leader in the country to embrace the aspect of a global new economy.
In stating this, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol was referring to the introduction of Sarawak’s new policy based on digital economy by Abang Johari back in 2017.
“He (Abang Johari) is the first leader in the country to shout out about his economic plans to embrace an aspect of global new economy.
“He talked passionately about artificial intelligence (AI) and many things related to it (such as) modern agriculture, fertigation, AliBaba, e-commerce and the setting up of innovation centre TEGAS Digital Village which is one of its kind in the country,” he said at Sarawak Public Communications Unit’ (UKAS) 5th anniversary dinner held at Pullman Hotel here last night.
He further disclosed that many people including some leaders within the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) itself were skeptical of Abang Johari’s idea.
However, Abdullah stressed that Abang Johari and some of the supportive leaders were very persistent on moving forward.
Abdullah also cited some of Abang Johari’s unforgettable phrases such as “Kita mesti berani” (We must be brave) and “Encang jak” (Just do it) of which if it wasn’t for him, Sarawak’s current status in its various developments especially in the new economy would not have been recognised and acknowledged by many other leaders including the Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim. — DayakDaily
