KUCHING, Dec 6: Incumbent and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N15 Asajaya Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is unperturbed by his opponents in the 12th Sarawak Election.

“It does not matter whether I face one or three opponents. I believe that the voters in Sarawak, including those in N15 Asajaya, are mature in the (ins-and-outs of the) democratic process,” he said.

“The voters in Sarawak have the right to choose their candidate to represent their constituency in N15 Asajaya.

“We are blessed that we are allowed to campaign, and I believe that they know who to vote for here and so will the rest of voters in all the constituencies in Sarawak,” he added.

Abdul Karim, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president, made this comment after N15 Asajaya candidates for the 12th Sarawak Election was announced at the foyer of SMK Hajjah Laila Taib, Asajaya today.

He said that he would continue with GPS’s development agenda in Asajaya, especially in terms of human capital and infrastructure.

“We can see new infrastructure like the building of barns, bridges, drainage, schools and so forth that are still in construction.

“When there are new development coming up in an area, we will face many obstacles like the damage done to road surfaces as heavy machinery need to use the roads to carry material for construction in the area,” he lamented.

“I hope that it will not become an issue, and I urge voters to be patient. Once the infrastructure in the area is completed, (using) the roads will be more convenient.

On the new faces nominated by GPS in the 12th Sarawak Election, Abdul Karim said that they represent the young blood who will be the leaders of tomorrow.

“We have young candidates in Tellian, in Tanjung Datu, Baleh and Lingga who are in their 30s. They will eventually take over from the old leaders. They will be guided and educated to lead,” he said.

Overall, Abdul Karim is confident this election and polling day for the constituency will be smooth and that no unwanted incidents will arise.

“I urge the supporters and voters from all the political parties contesting in the N15 Asajaya constituency to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) imposed by the Election Commission Of Malaysia (EC), Health Ministry and National Security Council (NSC) accordingly for the 12th Sarawak Election.”

He also reminding his party branch members in N15 Asajaya not to worry during polling day and execute their responsibility as legitimate voters.

“This ensures the process of electing the people’s representative in N15 Asajaya and the State goes smoothly and democratically,” he said.
