KUCHING, July 1: Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing’s arguably unauthorised entry to Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s (KLIA) security area may be wrong, but if he did it to expose corruption then his efforts should be applauded.
Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this in response to a recent commotion in KLIA involving Tiong after a foreign tourist was detained by immigration authorities.
Speaking to reporters, Abdul Karim believed that despite being a minister, the act of entering a place that is a security area without authorisation is still wrong.
“On the other hand, I feel that if what Tiong has done was to expose the deceitful schemes especially on corruption and that there is a basis on his allegations, we should thank him for uncovering the bad things.
“This is because as you all know; our country is associated with many corruption cases involving various government agencies so we have to look into this.
“Sometimes if we do not take care of this by having a brave person to uncover these corruption schemes, it will never be resolved.
“Thus, I do hope that those who are entrusted such as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), police or other relevant bodies; let them do the investigation but please do it in an honest and transparent manner.
If you have to expose it out, expose it. If you have to charge anybody, charge (them) regardless, even if he is a minister, high-ranking or low-ranking officer,” he said in a press conference in Sabah today. — DayakDaily
