Abdul Karim hopes PH govt will be more generous to Sarawak in National Budget 2020 announcement

KUCHING, Sept 23: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expects the Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government to have good news for Sarawak in the upcoming National Budget 2020 announcement due in November.

He said last year’s budget announcement for 2019 was a disappointment, but he was able to forgive them then because they had just taken over as the federal government for the first time.

“That (2018) was the year PH just formed the government, so we could excuse them then. But after one year they should be able to manage it properly.

“If they still cannot give us a good budget, then we’ll know they are just not good enough to be in the government. Time for change,” Abdul Karim said, responding to a reporter’s question about his expectations for the upcoming National Budget 2020 announcement due some time in November.

The National Budget 2019 announcement in November 2018 saw some RM4 billion allocated for Sarawak’s development fund.

Meanwhile, Abdul Karim also said he hoped that his ministry would get a decent cut of the National Budget 2020 to further promote Sarawak as a tourism destination, as well as to develop youth and sports.

“This is especially for the development of our young athletes, as well as infrastructure development,” he said. — DayakDaily
