KUCHING, June 29: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is confident that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will win the state and general elections if both were to be held simultaneously.

He believed if the federal government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were to call for an early general election this year, the GPS government will also achieve victory.

Abdul Karim who is Asajaya assemblyman opined that GPS is ready to face the state election anytime if it were to be called now.

“Whether it is this year or next year, it does not matter. As it is, we are very, very confident (to win) despite all these (opposition politicians) jumping here and there.

“I see GPS leaders are very committed. Overall, I would say, we (GPS leaders) have done quite a good job,” he said when asked by reporters during a press conference whether GPS is ready to face the election if it were to be held this year.

Abdul Karim who is Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister was invited to be the guest-of-honour to flag off the inaugural DayakDaily’s adventure programme called D’Drift at the online publication’s office here today.

On another note, he opined that it would be good for the state and general elections to be held at the same time as it saves money.

Nonetheless, Abdul Karim said there are no strong reasons why Muhyiddin needs to call for an early general election as the tenure is not due until 2023.

Thus, he wondered why the federal government needs to call for an early general election in the near future unless Muhyiddin is seeking a new mandate from the public. —DayakDaily
