KUCHING, Nov 2: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Batu Kitang branch chairman Abdul Aziz Isa has reiterated his call to Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang to solve the traffic congestion issue at 6th Mile Jalan Penrissen immediately without resorting to rhetoric or publicity.

In a press statement today, he noted Lo had on Oct 26 stated that the affected road section at 6th Mile Jalan Penrissen will be reopened in a week and the traffic congestion problem there will be alleviated.

However, according to Abdul Aziz, when he visited the 6th Mile Jalan Penrissen today, he saw the traffic congestion remained the same and had even worsened during off-peak hours.

Abdul Aziz claimed that DAP had tried to approach the main contractor of the 6th Mile flyover project to solve the traffic congestion issue but to no avail.

“Every time we try to approach the main contractor, they will instruct the subcontractors to deal with us.

“As an engineer by profession, Lo should understand that the sub-contractors are only accountable to the main contractor alone as they were appointed by the main contractor.

“Furthermore, the sub-contractors are not the decision-makers of the project.

“Thus, the lack of cooperation by the main contractor left the opposition party with no choice but to highlight this issue on social media and in local newspapers,” he said.

Abdul Aziz also dismissed Lo’s comment that the opposition will have equal opportunity to gain access to the main contractor, saying that the contractor which was appointed by the Works Ministry will only accountable to the ministry.

He added the contractor would also be answerable to Lo since the latter is a member of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and part of the government.

Abdul Aziz also said Lo should not change the topic and put the blame on Pakatan Harapan (PH) on the termination of the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) for the Pan Borneo Highway project while asserting that the main issue is the traffic congestion at 6th Mile Jalan Penrissen as opposed to who should be blamed and who should get the blame. — DayakDaily
