KUCHING, Dec 11: Datuk Wee Hong Seng can become the mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and an elected representative in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that many people sing praises of Wee as a mayor who has a lot of ideas.

“Therefore, I said if Wee has many ideas, why don’t he contribute the ideas in the DUN too?

“With this, everybody in Sarawak will benefit (from his contributions),” he said.

He said this when officiating at the redevelopment of MBKS Swimming Pool into a family water fun park and Centre of Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy at the site in Jalan Padungan tonight.

Wee, who is the current mayor of MBKS, will contest in the Padungan seat under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ticket in the 12th Sarawak Election.

At the same time, Abang Johari, who is GPS chairman, further reminded the Kuching South people to not succumb to the idea that they would lose Wee as their mayor if the latter won the Padungan seat.

“He can become a member of DUN; he can become the mayor. So why worry (about it)?

“If he wins the Padungan seat and becomes the mayor at the same time, he can contribute to the development of Kuching,” he added.

Amongst those present were Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; State Tourism, Arts and Culture (MTAC) Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian; State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan. — DayakDaily
