Abang Johari to be returned as PBB president uncontested, Uggah and Awang Tengah as deputy presidents

KUCHING, June 11: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his deputies, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, are expected to be returned as Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president and deputy presidents, respectively, uncontested.

PBB Election officer Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, when announcing this, said there will be no contest for all top posts at the party which will be holding its triennial general meeting (TGM) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 16-19.


“There were no other nominations received as of yesterday, the deadline to submit nominations, as all 82 PBB branches have nominated Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari to be returned as party president for the term 2022-2025.

“For the deputy president posts, all branches have also nominated Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan,” he told a press conference held at PBB headquarters here today.

Uggah, who was present, said that the results from all branches reflected the strong mandate from the grassroots and party as a whole in their confidence for Abang Johari to continue leading PBB and Sarawak towards a brighter and prosperous future.

“This also demonstrated the party has successfully enhanced unity for us to continue our struggles now and the challenging future. We are confident that PBB will continue to lead GPS (Ganbungan Parti Sarawak) government in Sarawak,” he said.

Awang Bemee also announced that all branches have also nominated Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof and Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom as senior vice presidents.

For vice president posts, he said those nominated are Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Dr Annuar Rapaee, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Dato Gerawat Gala, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah and Miro Simuh.

“All of them have won uncontested because all the branches have nominated them,” he added.

Meanwhile, some 2,420 members are expected to convene at the upcoming four-day PBB TGM next week in which Abang Johari will officiate on June 18.

The Youth and Women Wings will be holding their meetings on June 17 while the main on June 18 and 19.

PBB information chief Datuk Idris Buang and Satok assemblyman and Satok assemblyman Dato Ibrahim Baki were among those present. — DayakDaily
