KUCHING, June 15: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg saw off 142 hajj pilgrims from Sarawak who embarked on their journey to the Holy Land of Jeddah last night.
It is the first hajj group from the State.
They were scheduled to leave for Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) via a feeder flight departing at 11.20pm and expected to arrive at 1.15am.
The group was then expected to board flight MH8166 at 4.40am and to arrive in Jeddah at 8.35am (Saudi Arabia time) on Thursday.
This season, a total of 936 prospective hajj pilgrims compared to 397 last year from Sarawak have been selected.
Starting June 14, 2023 until June 16, 2023, a total of five domestic flights through Malaysia Airlines will bring hajj pilgrims to Jeddah.
Also present at the ceremony held at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre Kuching was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dato Setia Dr Mohd Naim Mokhtar. — DayakDaily
