SERIKIN, March 1: Newly minted Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin must now realise the value of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) because the latter supported his appointment as the top leader in the country, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said today
Answering reporters’ questions on GPS’s hoped-for reaction from Muhyiddin, Abang Johari said, “Well, we have supported him. Now he know the value of GPS.”
To another question why did GPS supported former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad earlier but later changed support to Muhyiddin, Abang Johari described Mahathir like a ‘frog’ who is undecided by repeatedly jumping between left and right.
“Initially we supported Mahathir. After that he resigned as prime minister, he resigned from Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia). Suddenly he ‘masuk kiri kanan kiri kanan kiri kanan agik’ (enter left and right repeatedly). So what do you expect? That is why we supported Muhyiddin,” he told reporters after a visit to the proposed site for new Serikin Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex located along the Sarawak-Indonesia border today.
Asked if GPS could now expect a better relationship and deal for Sarawak, Abang Johari said they should give Muhyiddin time to settle down.
“Of course we cannot concede as Sarawak’s interest and Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MS63) is at the upper most (priority), but let us give him time. He was just sworn in this morning,” he added. — DayakDaily
