KUCHING, Apr 22: An announcement will be made in early May on a new plant species discovered by scientists in Sarawak that can produce green energy, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“This is a breakthrough in green energy resources — a form of renewable energy that the world needs. I hoped it (the discovery) would bring joy to the people of Sarawak.
“I cannot reveal now (on the plant species) as it will be a ‘teka teki’ (a puzzle),” he said at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Abang Johari is confident that with more research, scientists will discover new green energy sources and plants for medicinal purposes.
“I believe in the long run it will bring a good impact and benefit Sarawak.
“This will give our scientists the motivation to explore new fields. We have also added more scientists at the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre to gain better results from our natural resources with new technology,” he said. — DayakDaily
