KUCHING, Nov 29: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg hopes that Sarawak will be able to produce films and television shows of the same value as South Korea’s ‘Winter Sonata’.

He said at the moment, the State-owned television (TV) station, TVS, has managed to secure film exchange with foreign TV stations.

“Presently, TVS has started airing Thailand’s drama series ‘Love Destiny’.

“Who knows, in the future, it would be our local series’ turn to be aired in Thailand,” he said.

He said this during his speech at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) machinery launch at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters in Jalan Bako last night.

He also held high hopes that future films produced in Sarawak would impact the State the same way ‘Winter Sonata’ did for South Korea.

“Winter Sonata is a South Korean television series which has elevated the country’s name and image significantly to the point that they have a fanbase in Japan,” he explained.

Following this, Abang Johari is optimistic that the same can be done in Sarawak, especially through the establishment of TVS as a platform. — DayakDaily
